social media explained

“The goal of social media is to turn customers into a your own personal volunteer marketing army!”

So, how?

And what is social media?

Social Media sites are any sites where users can interact with each other, comment, post pictures, leave reviews, and post links.

The most important social media site to be on, in our opinion, if you are a local business, is Google Places. Here’s an example of a Google Places site we created for a client.

As you can see, users can leave reviews. This is important; it’s ‘social proof’ – and that’s what social media is all about. Your Google Places page will also show up on Google search results, meaning it’s also important for SEO, as Google ranks sites higher that also have Google Places listings, AND have client reviews.

The general consensus amongst internet marketers is that Google Places is only going to become even more important as time goes by. So our recommendation, if you only do ONE social media site, is to create a Google Places listing.

Of course, we can help you do this properly (so it works and has an SEO benefit!) – so contact us if you’d like us to help you with that!

Next most important (or just as important, if your marketing is about building a ‘tribe’ as much as it is about targetted search) – is Facebook – that is, a Facebook business page.

(Here’s an example we created for a client.

That said, if you’re not a Facebook user already (as a person), it’s probably not going to be that easy for you to even ‘get’ Facebook, let alone use it successfully for your business.

So why not outsource the entire process to us? We’ll create you a business page, get you ‘Likes’ and friends, and post for you and engage with your followers on your behalf. This sort of service is sometimes known as ‘Social Media Management’, and our packages start at only $500 per month. Get in touch for more information!
